Media professionals have been urged to embrace voter education through their reportage to guide against voters apathy.
The Executive Director,Centre for media and society (CEMESO) Dr Akingbulu stated this at a two day workshop on Osun governorship Election stakeholders interface on credible poll.
Dr Akin Akingbulu who decried high level of misinformation in the count down to August 15th governorship Election in Osun State said misinformation and disinformation were inimical to credible Elections as it has been waponized as instrument of propaganda.
He called on media to give voice to women ,young people and person with disabilities,saying these group constitute the majority of voting population.
The Executive Director urged media professionals to always hold those in positions of authority to be accountable in line with section 22 of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He noted that media as watchdog of the society must sustain this role after the Election so as to sustain and promote the nation's democratic values.
Speaking at the Executive Director of International Press Centre ,Mr Lanre Arogundade said media was key the nation"s Electoral process hence the need the need for media professionals to always maintain professionalism.
Some stakeholders which include the Osun state Resident Electoral Commissioner,Mrs Toyin Babalola assured the participants that INEC has done everything humanly possible to deliver free and credible Election in August 15th governorship Election while the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists,Osun State Council ,Comrade Yemi Aboderin said Journalists in the state has continued to sustain professionalism in the reportage of political stories.
Some participants lauded the centre for putting the training together,saying it would go a long way to improve the delivery in the forthcoming governorship Election in Osun State.
