The State Controller of the Federal Fire Service in Osun State, Mr Femi Akinjobi, says the command is fully prepared to combat fire incidents across the state, particularly as the dry season approaches.
Mr Akinjobi stated this during an interview with the crew of Impact Digital Television, Osogbo, in his office, where he disclosed that the command was equipped with modern facilities to enhance its operations.
He explained that the service was prepared to respond promptly to fire emergencies, adding that its personnel were well trained to handle different forms of emergency situations.
Mr Akinjobi maintained that the command would sustain its public sensitization and education programmes to raise awareness about fire prevention and the appropriate steps to take during emergencies.
He noted that the service had extended its fire safety education programmes to schools and religious organisations to educate members of the public about its operations and the necessary precautions to take in the event of a fire outbreak.
As the dry season approaches, the State Controller urged residents to clear bushes and dry vegetation around their homes to minimise the risk of fire outbreaks. He explained that such measures would also help protect properties from fires caused by indiscriminate bush burning.
He advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could trigger fire outbreaks and expose lives and property to danger.
Mr Akinjobi also called on residents to support the command's efforts by reporting fire incidents immediately they occur, stressing that prompt notification would enable firefighters to respond quickly and minimise casualties and property damage.
The controller further advised residents to ensure that electrical appliances were properly maintained and that faulty electrical installations were promptly repaired by qualified professionals. He warned against overloading electrical sockets and leaving cooking fires unattended, noting that such practices could lead to devastating fire outbreaks.
He encouraged residents to familiarise themselves with basic fire safety measures and keep emergency contact numbers readily accessible. Mr Akinjobi emphasised that fire prevention was a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of individuals, households, religious institutions and other organisations across the state.
