As Osun State prepares for another crucial governorship election, the moment has arrived for citizens to demonstrate their commitment to democracy by coming out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Elections remain the most legitimate avenue through which the people choose their leaders and determine the future direction of governance. Every eligible voter therefore has a responsibility to participate actively in this important democratic process.
In recent weeks, political activities and campaigns have intensified across the state. While political competition is a normal feature of democracy, the tension that often accompanies elections should not discourage citizens from exercising their civic rights.
The strength of democracy lies not in fear or intimidation but in the willingness of citizens to make their voices heard through the ballot box.
IDTV calls on all registered voters in Osun State to reject apathy and refuse to be intimidated by rumours, misinformation, or attempts by any individual or group to create fear.
The governorship election belongs to the people, and the outcome should reflect the freely expressed will of the electorate. Staying away from the polls only weakens democratic participation and allows others to decide the future on behalf of the majority.
We commend the efforts of the relevant security agencies that have assured residents of adequate protection before, during, and after the election. The combined security team comprising the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and other security agencies will be on the ground to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful electoral environment.
The presence of security personnel should reassure voters that their safety remains a priority. Citizens should therefore go about their electoral responsibilities confidently, knowing that measures have been put in place to prevent violence, maintain public order, and respond promptly to any security challenges that may arise during the election period.
However, security agencies must also remember that their credibility depends on professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to the rule of law. Their duty is to protect voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials without fear or favour. They must remain neutral and resist any pressure that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
Equally important is the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),The electoral body must continue to uphold transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the conduct of the election. Every vote must count, and every electoral procedure must inspire public confidence in the democratic process.
Political parties and their candidates also have a major responsibility. While vigorous campaigns are expected in any democracy, politicians must place the interests of Osun State above personal ambition.

The credibility of the election depends largely on the conduct of those entrusted with managing and monitoring the process. Neutrality and professionalism must remain the guiding principles throughout the exercise.

Roads, schools, healthcare services, employment opportunities, and overall development are all influenced by the choices made at the ballot box. Every vote therefore carries significant value.
