Osun 2026: Osun masterminds decries collapse of internal security in the state ahead of the poll.

The Osun masterminds has decried the worsening insecurity in Osun State as the state prepares for August 15th governorship Election in the state as it demanded for free ,fair and credible Election.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo,The Executive Director of the group , Professor Wasiu Oyedokun said the call became imperative in the face of the recent political violence bedeviling the state electoral process.

Professor  Oyedokun said the state the internal security landscape had experienced an alarming and progressive deterioration hence the need for security agencies to wake up from its slunder.

He noted the state which was historically acclaimed as one of the most peaceful states in the South-West geopolitical zone  was now being increasingly destabilized by widespread cult violence, armed political thuggery, and high-stakes clashes associated with the upcoming elections.

The Executive Director called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the inter-agency consultative committee on election security to deploy robust, impartial, and proactive security measures to every polling unit and collation center across the 332 wards in Osun State.

Speaking on the ongoing NURTW crisis in the state , Professor Oyedokun expressed disappointment that successive political administrations at both the State and Local Government levels have treated transport unions not as independent trade organizations governed by trade union laws and internal constitutions, but as partisan enforcement wings to be hijacked, weaponized, and deployed against political opponents

He said overt political interference and forced imposition of union leadership by state and local government authorities violates the fundamental principles of trade union autonomy, freedom of association, and the rule of law.

The Executive Director condemned the increasing and unabashed involvement of traditional rulers in partisan politics ahead of the August 15 Governorship election.,saying the traditional institution in Yorubaland, and Osun State in particular, holds a sacred, historical position as the custodian of our culture, values, peace, and communal cohesion.

He said partisan entanglement of traditional rulers was  dangerously eroding the trust, respect, and reverence that the public historically holds for the royal throne as it's divides communities, fosters hostility between monarchs and their subjects, and exposes the sacred traditional institution to public ridicule, political disrespect, and partisan acrimony.

Speaking on high level of political motivated arrest by police the Osun Masterminds , Executive Director expressed deep alarm over the escalating trend of politically motivated arrests, arbitrary detentions, and selective law enforcement targeting opposition figures, political activists, media commentators, and critical civic voices across Osun State.

He said such  practices were alien to constitutional democracy, violate fundamental human rights guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and signal a dangerous descent towards authoritarianism.
