The Executive Director of the Osun State Mastermind, Professor Wasiu Oyedokun-has called on south west governors to actively collaborate and strengthen border securities in order to prevent cross border terrorism invasions.
Professor Oyedokun who made the call during Osun State Mastermind press conference in Osogbo said those in power must stop acting as passive onlookers and implement proactive local security frameworks to protect public schools and rural communities from the rampaging evil.
He urged governments at all levels in the country to stop acting as passive onlookers and evolve strategies that would stem the tide of insecurity in the country.
Professor Oyedokun however called on federal government to deploy maximum security assets to secure the unconditional release of the forty six Oyo school students abducted.
He charged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strictly exercise its regulatory and oversight functions by thoroughly monitored party primaries and ensure it was in line with dictate of electoral law and constitution of each political party.
"What we have witnessed is a deeply disappointing departure from democratic ideals. The internal party primaries of most political parties have been characterized by a blatant lack of transparency, imposition of candidates, and the complete suppression of the popular will of party members.
"Political parties are the foundational pillars of our democracy; they cannot offer the public a democratic governance model if they cannot practice democracy within their own structures.
"When internal party mechanisms are hijacked by godfathers and powerful cabals, it undermines the integrity of subsequent general elections and produces leadership that feels entirely unaccountable to the citizenry.
"Opposition and ruling politicians alike must understand that the democratic process is not a license to circumvent rules or stir institutional distrust.
INEC must refuse to validate primaries that clearly violate the Electoral Act and the parties' own constitutions while the Federal Government must also ensure INEC has all the autonomy and teeth it needs to enforce compliance.
