The bill seeking to address the alarming rate of out of school children and other related matters entitled, the Osun State Mass Education Agency Bill, 2024, has scaled through its second reading.
The bill would ensure gender equality, increased enrollment and proper regulation within the education sector.
Member representing Ila State Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Alhaji Sikiru Bajepade presented the policy thrust of the bill during plenary held at the Assembly Complex , Osogbo.
Alhaji Bajepade said the Bill when passed into law seeks to establish an agency aimed to strengthen non-formal and adult education across the state.
In separate contributions, Legislators including, Mr.Lawrence Adeoti, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola, Mr. Abiola Awoyeye, Mr. Taofeeq Olayiwola, Prince Adekunle Oladimeji, Mr. Kanmi Ajibola, Mr. Wale Akerele, and Mr.Laide Ajibola said the bill would ensure quality assurance and help to clamp down quack coaching centers.
In reaction to the Bill, the Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun, emphasized that education is a key component which must be given the priority it deserves.
Also, in his opening remarks , Prince Egbedun emphasized the need for his colleagues to provide a just, efficient, and accountable representation for thier Constituencies.
The Speaker who expressed the resolve of the 8th Assembly to provide legislative support for the visionary administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, noted that the administration has made the House and the state proud in all aspects of its policies.
Also during plenary, member representing Iwo State Constituency, Alhaji Rabiu Atanda formally resigned from the Accord Party through a formal letter presented during plenary.
