Osun 2026: APC knocks Accord party over attack on its chieftain in Ede.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the attack on a member of the party in Ede, the home town of the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, by some of the political hoodlums of the Accord Party on Friday, describing it as wicked, barbaric and grossly undemocratic.

Information has it that Mr. Samson Adeyemi, the Chief of Staff to the reinstated chairman of the Ede Local Government Council Area, Honourable Kola Salami, was attacked in a coordinated act of political violence for having the audacity to put on a fez cap bearing the insignia of the state APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming election by the goons of the Accord Party/the state government.

It was gathered that the attack arm of the Accord Party was visibly annoyed that the Chief of Staff alongside his co-APC members were bold enough to put on the fez cap with the logo of AMBO on their way back to their destinations at Ayo Omooba area, along the Reservoir/Agip Axis in the ancient town.

Information further confirmed that the political thugs who were armed with knives, cudgels, stones, juju and other dangerous instruments of attack  beat and stabbed the victim, leaving him with a laceration on his face.

We thought that such introduction of thuggery to politics had gone with the 2022 when Governor Adeleke and the other PDP candidates used coordinated violence against the members and supporters of our party before and during the elections to come out victorious by stepping on the blood of the innocent people in the state.

We cannot open our eyes witnessing the needless orchestrated attacks on our people by the Accord Party hoodlums in a similar manner that about 30 members and supporters of our party were slaughtered like rams before and during the 2022 governorship election.

When we remember how Mr. Saheed Olagunju, Ward 9 treasurer of our party was killed in Ikire in the Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state by the then PDP goons in 2023 precisely on the day that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presidential train was brought to Osogbo, it is expedient for us to voice out.

The wicked murder of the former Chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state, Honourable Remi Abass,  in the broad daylight by the PDP/Accord Party hoodlums, is another potent reason we are now making an issue on the untoward and inhuman development.

We are imploring the state commissioner of police and all the other sister security agencies in the state to treat the incessant political violence in the governor's home town in particular and the state in general with all the attention it deserves with dispatch.

The police should, without further delay,  investigate, arrest and prosecute the undesirable elements behind the criminal act in the ancient town of Ede with a view to acting as a deterrent to others with similar intentions.

Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers should know that there's no law that enforces the membership of any political association or body and the fact that the incumbent governor hails from Ede should not be a reason for all the sons and daughters of the community to identify with the governor's political party.

The remnants of the Accord Party members in Ikire, the home town of our governorship candidate, AMBO, are not being subjected to attacks by the members   of our party as it's considered their constitutional entitlement to exercise their fundamental right of association with the party of their choice. We are not expecting anything less from Adeleke/Accord Party.

In a similar development, a political thug in the Ife-North Local Government Council Area of Osun State who was putting on a fez cap with an insignia of 'Imole', the campaign slogan of Governor Adeleke, was sighted displaying a torn campaign fez cap of AMBO, in a viral video clip.

The political thug who owned up for the tearing of the fez cap goes by the means of identification as 'Sugar, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), warned the APC to stay off the local government.

The police should go after this character as his continuous membership of the society is capable of polluting the law-abiding citizens in the society.

The leadership of the NURTW in the state should assist the police in arresting and investigating Sugar who is giving the disciplined union a bad name in the society
