Osun State government repositions primary healthcare facilities for quality service delivery

The Osun State Government says it has succeeded in putting more than 1,000 primary healthcare facilities across the state into full operation to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents.

The Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Sina Igbalaye, disclosed this in Osogbo while featuring on Impact Digital Television’s personality interview programme, "The Dialogue"

Dr Igbalaye said the health centres had been equipped with necessary facilities and provided with health professionals to ensure effective service delivery.

He explained that when he assumed office in December 2025, many of the facilities were in poor condition, making it necessary for the board to embark on measures to restore them to full operation.

The Executive Secretary said the state government had continued to strengthen the primary healthcare system through improved infrastructure, recruitment of health workers and the provision of essential facilities.

He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for supporting the recruitment of health personnel and ensuring the prompt payment of their salaries, noting that these measures had contributed to improved performance across the facilities.

Dr Igbalaye also disclosed that the board had received grants of 5,000 dollars in two consecutive rounds to support its healthcare delivery efforts.

He said some designated primary healthcare centres had also been strengthened to provide services at a level comparable to secondary healthcare facilities, thereby improving access to essential medical services within communities.

The Executive Secretary added that the board was intensifying its monitoring and supervision of healthcare facilities to ensure that health workers performed their duties effectively and that residents received the expected standard of care.

He further acknowledged the support of development partners in strengthening primary healthcare delivery across the state.

Dr Igbalaye urged residents to make proper use of primary healthcare centres and follow medical referral procedures when their health conditions required attention at higher-level facilities.

He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to sustaining the gains recorded in the sector and ensuring that residents across Osun State had improved access to functional and quality primary healthcare services.
