Barrister Owolade, who stated this in a chat with a Radio Nigeria correspondent in Osogbo, said as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, political leaders must harness the nation's human and material resources for economic prosperity.
He decried the level of development in some critical sectors of the economy, stressing the need for urgent reforms and realignment of key sectors to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
Describing education as the bedrock of development, Barrister Owolade called on governments at all levels to prioritise the sector, noting that many advanced countries achieved significant development through technical education.
He identified education as a major instrument of civilisation, adding that the South-West region benefited from early access to education through the free education policy introduced by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the former Western Region.
Speaking on developments at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, the board chairman said the institution had witnessed significant progress in the last three and a half years of Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration, particularly in the procurement of modern medical equipment and improvement in staff welfare.
According to him, these interventions have boosted workers' productivity and positioned the hospital for greater efficiency and improved healthcare delivery.
Barrister Owolade expressed optimism that with Governor Adeleke's re-election for a second term, the teaching hospital would further improve and become one of the leading teaching hospitals in the country.
On the forthcoming general elections, he urged all critical stakeholders to abide by the rules of the electoral process and shun actions capable of causing rancour, acrimony and violence.
