Alabere to Ataoja : Let peace reign among Neighbouring Communities

The Alabere of Abere, Oba Mutalib Adefemi Adelakin, has urged the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, to maintain peaceful relations with neighbouring communities to prevent a possible communal clash.

Oba Adelakin who made the appeal in an interview with Impact Digital Television, Osogbo, at his palace, while reacting to a recent petition by the Ataoja claiming that Abere Ede belongs to Osogbo.expressed concern that the claim could trigger tension between the two communities if not handled with caution.

He described the claim as lacking historical evidence, insisting that Abere Ede belongs to Abere and noting that the area hosts the Osun State Government Secretariat and other government agencies.

Oba Adelakin maintained that the land belonged to his forefathers, explaining that the construction of the Government Secretariat affected about nine houses in Abere.

He said the administration of Chief Bisi Akande subsequently built nine replacement houses for the affected families.

The monarch stressed that the Alabere-in-Council would not accept any attempt to rewrite the history of the community, adding that Abere had willingly made the land available in the interest of the area's socioeconomic development.

He noted that Osogbo had already been accorded the status of state capital and urged the Ataoja to respect neighbouring communities rather than engage in actions that could undermine peaceful relations.

Oba Adelakin also commended the Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, for what he described as his peaceful disposition, assuring that Ede would continue to promote peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities and towns.

Speaking on the blackout in Abere, the monarch assured residents that he had contacted the appropriate authorities over the incident and expressed hope that the damaged transformer would soon be replaced.

He explained that the prolonged power outage had disrupted socioeconomic activities in the ancient community, causing hardship for traders and artisans whose businesses had been adversely affected.

Oba Adelakin appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from any action capable of causing rancour or acrimony, while efforts continued to address the electricity problem.
