As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Police Force says it will continue to uphold professionalism and discharge its duties in accordance with the dictates of its professional calling.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, AIG Bassey Ewah, stated this during a media chat with journalists in Osogbo.
AIG Ewah expressed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force under Zone 11 to perform its responsibilities without fear or favour, stressing that officers and men of the zone had been adequately trained on what was expected of them before, during and after the elections.
He said the zone would not condone any act of indiscipline by its personnel.
The AIG urged political actors to play the game according to the rules, warning that the police would not hesitate to deal with any politician who caused crisis, irrespective of his or her status.
On the recent cult-related killings in Osun State, AIG Ewah disclosed that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incidents.
He assured residents that the police would not rest on their oars until criminal activities were brought under control in the state.
The AIG described Osun as relatively peaceful compared with some other states in the country and called on residents to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police.
Speaking on his recent visit to the two commands under his watch, AIG Ewah expressed satisfaction with the conduct of officers and men of the commands, urging them to sustain the tempo in the ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force to international standards.
He warned that any officer found engaging in acts inimical to the rules and regulations of the Force would face the full weight of the law.
According to him, police officers are expected to be civil in their approach and maintain high moral standards to earn the confidence and respect of members of the public.
AIG Ewah said his doors remained open to residents who wished to lodge complaints, assuring that such complaints would be handled promptly and in accordance with the laws of the land.
He said the zone was committed to restoring confidence where there was anxiety by ensuring that the rights of residents were protected and their lives and property fully secured.
