It was a day of celebration, thanksgiving and solidarity at the University of Ilesa as the entire staff of the institution trooped out in large numbers to celebrate the re-election of the Executive Governor of Osun State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.

The celebration, organised by the Staff Representatives of the University, was held to commemorate the Governor’s victory in the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election and to express the appreciation of the University community for the support and interventions of his administration since assuming office.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph.D, FCA, congratulated Governor Adeleke on his re-election and expressed appreciation for his profound support for the growth and development of the University. He said the support of the State Government was especially important to the institution as a young and growing University.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the Adeleke administration had demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of education and human capital development to the future of the State. He stressed that “the future of Osun State is inseparably linked to the quality of education and human capital the University develops today.”

Prof. Asaolu commended the Governor for his commitment to the advancement of education and for recognising the University of Ilesa as an important partner in the development of Osun State. He assured that the University would continue to justify the confidence and support of the government through excellence in teaching, research, innovation and the production of graduates who would make meaningful contributions to the State and the nation.

He appealed for an even stronger partnership between the University and the State Government as the Governor commenced his second term, expressing confidence that continued support would enable the University to become an institution of greater distinction and impact. He prayed that God would grant the Governor wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance to lead the State successfully.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Abiodun Adeleke, who delivered a message on behalf of the Staff Representatives, said the celebration was more than an occasion to rejoice over the Governor’s electoral victory. According to him, it was also an opportunity for the staff to acknowledge and appreciate an administration that had demonstrated a strong commitment to workers’ welfare and the development of the University.

He cited the payment of the 30-month outstanding peculiar allowance owed to staff who transited from the former Osun State College of Education to the University, conversion of 230 temporary staff to permanent staff, fresh appointments, regular and timely promotions, reviewed remuneration for academic staff and the tarring of University internal roads as evidence of the administration’s commitment.

Mr. Adeleke declared that “we have seen the support, experienced the interventions, felt the impacts and sincerely appreciate the government,” assuring that the staff would remain committed to the growth and development of the University and contribute meaningfully to the educational, economic and social advancement of Osun State.

The celebration ended with prayers of thanksgiving for the success recorded at the election and supplications for Governor Adeleke’s second term in office. Amid music, jubilation, pomp and pageantry, the staff celebrated the Governor and wished him greater achievements, peace, prosperity and unity as he continues to steer the affairs of Osun State.
